Your Enough

Several years ago as I was getting ready to leave my home for my scheduled Eucharistic Adoration time with Jesus. I heard this voice in my heart say, “leave the books at home”! I had a habit of taking a couple of books to read as I sat with Jesus during my hour. I took the books with.

The following week, the same thing happened. I took the books with me again! The third week as I was leaving the voice in my heart was very stern, almost a reprimand, “Leave the books at home,” and then I heard, “You’re Enough!” This time the books stayed home and I went to be with Jesus empty handed!

He wanted all my attention. Jesus wanted to fill me with the gift He had for me…which was Himself. His love, His attention, His words. He wanted to have an encounter, (to come upon face to face) with me, no books or words from another, to take me away from our encounter.

No one in my life has ever said those words to me except Jesus…It was truly a freeing experience for me, one I will never forget. You’re enough, just as I am, I was enough for my Creator. So awesome…I saw myself in a whole new light… My imperfect love was enough, at that moment, for His Perfect Sacred Heart. Thank you Jesus!

In Psalm 42:7-8, the Psalmist coined the phrase to describe the place where our deep need meets God’s all-sufficient presence.

7 Deep is calling to deep by the roar of your cataracts, all your waves and breakers have rolled over me.

8 In the daytime God sends his faithful love, and even at night; the song it inspires in me is a prayer to my living God.

And yes, as much as I would like to think I am obedient to my Lord’s promptings, I know there are times, I do not hear Him. It grieves my heart greatly. But I also know, His love for me is greater than any offense I may do.

You must increase and I must decrease, as John the Baptist said and when this happens we no longer continue to think only of ourselves. As we allow Him to increase in our life only then do we find the love and acceptance that He is offering.

We love God only to the extent that we know Him… by having a personal relationship with Him, by giving Him a portion of our day…praying, including Him in all our decisions, and listening to Him when He speaks in that still, small, voice.

Speak Lord Your servant is listening. (1 Samuel 3:10)
So my advice, open the ears of your heart…until next time, Eva.
